What makes Ad Muncher better than other advert removers?
Ad Muncher has been in constant development for over seven years, and has been used successfully on millions of computer systems around the world. After these years of development and user feedback it has evolved into a rock-solid application with some of the most advanced advert and popup filtering systems currently available.A quick list of features that differentiate Ad Muncher from many other advert removal products:
- Not just a popup remover, also removing embedded adverts and many other annoyances.
- System-level filtering of adverts in all browsers and most advert-displaying programs.
- Extensive configuration options to tailor Ad Muncher to your needs.
- Extremely fast filtering engine (we welcome any comparisons of our filtering speed to other programs with comparable filter lists).
- Continuing intensive development, with no end in sight for continually improving Ad Muncher releases!
Don’t just take our word for it though, we urge you to try Ad Muncher for yourself, even compare its effectiveness against any other programs you may be considering. To try Ad Muncher for 30 days without charge or obligation, please visit our download page.
What do the advert-free pages look like?
Advert images are replaced with “[Munched]” text (which can be changed if desired), this saves the download time of the image and in most cases also results in less space being used by the advert (making the entire page slightly more compact). The overall formatting of each page remains intact otherwise, just without the adverts. Other images/links/elements can be removed or changed also, but for the moment here’s a quick example of a popular page loaded with Ad Muncher v4.56 and the default settings:Yahoo: (before)

Yahoo: (after)
Does Ad Muncher contain “spyware”, or display its own adverts?
Absolutely not - Ad Muncher does not install any spyware on your system, does not display its own adverts, and does not send us (or anyone) any information about your system. The only time Ad Muncher will contact our servers is when it is verifying a registration code or retrieving updates, in which case the information sent is only the bare minimum, and is subject to our privacy policy.
Why does my firewall say Ad Muncher is making “server” and outbound connections?
This is just how Ad Muncher filters your browser’s transfers; when your browser tries to connect to a web server, it is instead connected to the local Ad Muncher program (hence why it is creating a listening (”server”) connection). Ad Muncher then connects out to the original target of the browser, which accounts for the outbound connections. These connections are perfectly normal and no cause for concern; the listening sockets are of no use to anyone except the programs on your computer trying to connect out.

Troubleshooting
Ad Muncher is enabled but I still get popup windows, how can I get rid of them?
Please ensure that the popup removal systems are enabled in Ad Muncher’s configuration, do this by clicking the Ad Muncher icon on your taskbar, selecting “Options”, then “Popup Removal”, and enable each option on the right. Please also be sure to clear your browser’s cache before testing again. If popups persist it is possible (and very likely) that the popups are being generated by a spyware/adware package on your system. In this case we recommend running a scan of your system using a spyware/adware detector like “Spybot SD”, as available from here.
Once any spyware/adware packages are removed the popups should stop. If not, please contact us so we can investigate further.
How do I stop “Messenger Service” popups?
Just click the Ad Muncher icon on your system tray, then click “Options”, “Popup Removal” and enable to option to “Prevent messenger service popups from appearing while Ad Muncher is activated”. Click “Apply” and the popups should be gone for good. If you notice messenger service popups still getting through after doing this please feel free to contact us.
How do I remove advert X from webpage Y?
The basic explanations are covered in the Custom Filter Lists section of your Ad Muncher help file (which can be opened by selecting your Start Menu/Programs/Ad Muncher/User’s Guide), it is also helpful to have a good understanding of the URL Basics and HTML Basics sections in the help file before removing adverts. If you still are not able to remove an advert please do feel free to contact us.

I keep getting “Done, but with errors on page” messages on the status bar in Internet Explorer.
This is just Internet Explorer complaining about how Ad Muncher removes adverts, sometimes it’s impossible to remove adverts graciously and more aggressive methods must be used, the pages will still load fine (and without the adverts) and this message is entirely safe to ignore.
Internet Explorer keeps popping up script error windows…
This is also caused be the above-mentioned problem, however Ad Muncher will normally disable the settings which cause this window to appear (leaving only the warning on the status bar which can be safely ignored) when Ad Muncher is installed. If for some reason the settings have been changed and the warning is displaying again, it can be disabled by simply un-checking the “Always display this message when a page contains errors.” checkbox on the window. Or if you are running Internet Explorer version 4 (which can’t have its script debugging disabled) try enabling the “Suppress Internet Explorer script debugging” option in Ad Muncher’s configuration window (under options/filtering).
